2016 ASID NJ Gold Award For Design Excellence - Large Bathroom
Cramped claustrophobic layout. Cracked brown and yellow tiles. Not enough storage space. Toilet too close to the wall.
With no option to enlarge the room or move the window or door, relocating the tub/shower to the end of the room was the best way to open up the space. The new fiberglass (more eco-friendly than vinyl) awning window has all tile trim (no wood to get wet or rot), is placed high on the wall to avoid most of the water spray from the shower (as well as providing privacy) and the sill is one piece of granite (no grout) with a slight forward slope to drain any water. The wide console sink gives more elbow room for 2 people brushing teeth at the same time, and the defogging medicine cabinet mirror helps with shaving. Refurbished antique metal doctor's cabinet provides stylish storage. The spearmint green and black tile lend the room the vintage vibe the homeowner loves. Custom unglazed porcelain mosaic floor tile required sanding after installation to smooth the rough edges.
