Kitchen & family room, Montclair

KITCHEN PROBLEMS: The kitchen (145 sq ft) was too small, inefficient and dark. The refrigerator placement was awkward. The family room (215 sq ft) was drafty and uncomfortable in cold weather.
KITCHEN SOLUTIONS: Flipping the location of the kitchen and family room resulted in an open space with a larger, workable kitchen plus a cozy family space. The powder room, which had been in between the two rooms, was relocated to the other side of the new family room. The new kitchen (235 sq ft) now has plenty of light, counter and storage space and many features including: tall food pantry with pull-out shelves, compost bin recessed in the counter, pull-out trash/recycling bins, custom wine rack, wine refrigerator, desk with cork backsplash and coat closet.
SQUARE FEET: 235
