Tracey Stephens, Principal Designer
My childhood and background have uniquely prepared me for a life as an interior designer. As the daughter of a Foreign Service Officer and an artist, I grew up mostly in Europe where my parents assembled a museum-quality art and antique collection. I developed a strong appreciation for world cultures, art, design, and travel early in life. After early careers in social work (honing listening skills and couples negotiating) and public relations, I found my true passion in interior design. I started my interior design business in 1991 while still a student at Parsons School of Design. For the last decade, I have focused primarily solely on [sustainable] kitchen and bath design.
Sustainability has been at the heart of my design process for the last 15 years and has only become more urgent over the years. I find that many of my clients want to be green in their everyday lives, but are unsure how to go about it. That’s where my years of knowledge and expertise come in. Through sustainable practices and materials, I create comfortable, inviting, aesthetically pleasing, and functional kitchens and bathrooms that are healthy, efficient, and safe for both people and the environment. I believe we all have a responsibility to our planet, and green design is a critical component in reducing human’s destructive impact on our earth and creating a safer and healthier living environment for all.
When not working, I enjoy kayaking, live music, walking in Brookdale Park, and yoga. One of my favorite bands is Pinegrove and not only because it is my son's band (Evan Stephens Hall)!
