Craftsman Bath, Montclair
HOUZZ BEFORE AND AFTERS: Vintage Bathroom Makeover With a Special Tile Touch
BATHROOM PROBLEMS: The leaking "coffin shower" in this 1906 Montclair 3rd floor bath was removed by the homeowners and remained that way for a decade. The toilet and sink were in awkward locations. The steeply sloping eaves made it challenging to fit a reasonably sized shower that would meet the height code requirements.
BATHROOM SOLUTIONS: The toilet was moved toward the window to make space for a 49" wide single sink vanity. The front of the shower was brought forward toward the door to meet minimum height requirement and then extended back into the eaves at a lower height. A half wall topped by glass next to the vanity plus frameless glass at the front eliminates the "coffin" feeling. A very fun collaboration with clients, who are makers with mad skills, resulted in vintage craftsman style with a quirky twist.
